這團的故事起源於原本分屬兩組不同樂團的主唱William Beckett與吉他手Michael Carden，在各自樂團解散後發現兩人彼此理念相近，便開始密切合作一起玩音樂，The Academy Is…(以下簡稱TAI)也開始有了基本雛型。2002年陸續增加貝斯手Adam Siska、第二吉他手Adrian LaTrace Jr.以及鼓手Mike DelPrincipe後，樂團終於羽化成型。2004年於獨立廠牌推出首張同名EP，輾轉被打倒男孩合唱團(Fall Out Boy)貝斯手Peter Wentz聽到而大為喜愛，於是簽入自家廠牌Fueled by Ramen旗下，接著錄製推出第一張完整專輯“Almost Here”，登上全美熱門潛力榜Top20/獨立專輯榜Top24，雖然有了好的開端，但團員間卻有了一小部份變動，因吉他手Tom Conrad離團而招募Michael Guy Chislett替代，原鼓手Mike則換上Andy Mrotek。2007年發行了“Santi”，登上Billboard 200專輯榜#32，專輯中的「Everything We Had」也穿插在電影【P.S.我愛你】中，讓更多樂迷聽到他們的作品，繼Panic At The Disco、Boys Like Girls後，TAI也榮登成為市場的新寵兒，更是FBR旗下倍受重視的一組團體。

新作“Fast Times At Barrington High”，是以Beckett與Siska就讀的高中命名，也是回顧高中時代的回憶，同時希望以這個概念引起樂迷們的共鳴。這次邀請製作團隊Sam Hollander與Sluggo（Gym Class Heroes）擔任唱片製作，更有同門師弟團Cobra Starship、好友樂團Metro Station，以及Jack’s Mannequin首腦Andrew McMahon的助陣。你還記得高中喜歡的女孩嗎?首波主打「About A Girl」，率先以心電圖般陣陣吉他與鼓點鋪陳，像是暗戀中起伏不定的心情、愈來愈快愈來愈快…始終是膽怯不敢求愛卻又想被愛的矛盾心聲在副歌中激出，只好在心中大聲吶喊、在心中刻畫曾經擁有的回憶；不怕你不做，只怕你後悔的「Summer Hair = Forever Young」，讓人信心大增；「His Girl Friday」層層吉他堆砌出軌的刺激；由嘉賓McMahon率先敲出憂憂的鋼琴聲，Beckett那彷彿沒有明天似的歌聲帶入情緒較低沉的「After The Last Midtown Show」；最後以跨越自我界線的「One More Weekend」，將一路跌撞的低落心靈，一片片拾起拼湊而壯大。（註1）
